Everill MacKay Memorial Fishing Derby
2008 RESULTS

The 15th Annual Everill MacKay Derby was held on Sandy Neck Beach from the 19th thru the 21st of
September 2008. This year’s weather was typical for the first fall weekend on Cape Cod. There was an onshore
breeze all day Friday and Night, to a calming Southwest Breeze and bright sun for Saturday and Sunday. As
normal at Sandy neck, the fishing on Fridays incoming tide prior to the start of the derby saw 3 nice size Striped
Bass from 36” to 29”, but as the derby started fishing slowed and the Blue Fish showed up. This year’s derby
only saw 63 people participating with 46 people actively fishing. This was a large decrease over last year’s
attendance and the lowest turnout ever for this derby. The break down by division was:
Adult Male – 36
Adult Female – 8
Junior Male -0
Junior Female -2
for a total of 46 people fishing

The over all winner of the Derby with the largest fish was member Bob Flynn with a 33” Blue Fish. Bob was
awarded the Everill MacKay Perpetual Trophy, 2 Fall Banquet Tickets, where he will formally accept the trophy
from Last Years Winner. The winner of the Female Division was Nancy Brown with a Small Striped Bass.
The Winner of the Junior Female Division was Samantha Carlson with a skate.
There were no fish weighed in from the Junior Male Division.
