Presidents Report
October is upon us and with the close call we had last month but smaller storms had came through a drive
around to the beaches show they are starting to take their winter modes and appearance. The last of the fall
projects have been completed and Columbus Day is usually the last big weekend out for all. There is still some
great fishing to had and hopefully the weather will cooperate. Please tell everyone about our upcoming Fall
Banquet celebrating sixty years and still going strong. It is at White’s of Westport and this should be a night to
remember. The general meeting starts at 6:15 promptly so get those tickets before the cut off date of Oct.20. At
the last meeting it was voted on to help donate to a great group that is hard at work fighting for access on
Plymouth Beach. The group is The Plymouth Beach for All Coalition and the have been fighting against
Goldenrod to preserve their rights to the beach. Myself ,Don Fillman and Eric Bumpus had met with them and
help point them is the right direction about the endangered species act , beach order of conditions and section
ten permitting and with town and state agencies to become active with. They were quite surprised with our
donation to help them out and the are on face book for those that want to follow their progress.

Chairman of the Board Report
I would like to start my report by thanking everyone for attending our Board of Directors Meeting. Let’s keep up
the good work and continue the support that keeps this organization going.
I also thank everyone who came to the Race Point Clean-up. We made a huge difference in how the beach
looks. The Fall Cleanup is important for removal of the debris that accumulates near the “Foredune Area”. This
debris would otherwise remain from year to year because of the symbolic fence that is put in place in the spring
also limits access for cleanup.
I see that the MS/MDA Tournament in RI, is coming up this month, and I hope to see you all at the 2010 MBBA
Fall Banquet on November 6, 2010 at Whites in Westport MA. This is an event to celebrate the 60th year of the
MBBA. For tickets contact Rudy Sawyer, or check with your officers or beach reps.
For our 60th we decided to try another venue again this year, and I think this will be a refreshing change as well.
The Fall Banquet is a major part of the MBBA’s calendar of events. It is one of two annual General Membership
Meetings where important decisions, requiring a quorum of our membership, are voted on. This annual event
includes the election of our officers.
These are the people who represent our club at public meetings, as well as at our functions and on committees
that concern the future of beach access.
We also invite special guests and hold raffles to entertain ticket holders and give financial support to our
organization. Order your banquet tickets, and come join us for a night of camaraderie, great food, and best of all
to support your club.
We all need to stick together and support the MBBA in its events and activities to promote what we value so
much. We had mixed reviews on summer this year, depending on the beach. Let’s work together and defend
our access Support your club by attending the Banquet, Beach Projects and Board of Directors Meetings, and
other events. The Board of Directors meetings are held at the Lakeville Lions Club.
Directions to the Lakeville Lions Club
From North:
Take 495 South to Route 105 in Lakeville.
At the end of the ramp bear right and continue on Route 105 for a mile or so and then begin looking for the
“General Joe Hooker Lounge” sign on the left. At the sign go left on Staples Shore road and as the road curves
right, in front of the club, take a left into the parking lot for the club. We meet in the Event Room on the left side of
the building.
From south:
Take Route 25 (495 North) to Route 105 in Lakeville. At the bottom of the ramp (facing McGee Chevrolet) take
a left on Route 105 and follow 105 for a mile or so and begin looking for the “General Joe Hooker Lounge” sign

Membership Secretary Report
The Fall Banquet is RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER. We’re busy preparing for a great evening. As a reminder,
this year’s banquet is being held at Whites of Westport on Saturday, November 6th. White’s is conveniently
located off Rt. 195 in Westport, MA. Campers are permitted to park overnight.
The evening will be fun-filled with new officers being elected as well as a delicious dinner and music/dancing
provided by DJ Jeff Fowler.
Beach Reps and officers are selling tickets now. Tickets are $38.00 each or (2) for $75.00. This is our 60th
Anniversary; come celebrate this “White Diamond” event with us.
The menu for the evening is:
Caesar Salad, Seasonal Vegetable, Garlic Smashed Potatoes Baked Scrod, Baked Virginia Ham, Roasted
Chicken Seafood Scampi with steamed rice
Chef-Carved Roast Tenderloin of Pork with apple-raisin stuffing and pork gravy
And of course….Seafood Newburg and Oreo cookie ice cream pie for dessert. See ya on the 6th!!

Executive Vice Presidents Report
I hope you all had a great summer with your families on the beaches. I did not have the opportunity to this
summer but did make some projects and realized how much the projects are so much fun to be at with a lot of
great people so check it out next year when Peter Murray post them.
The fall banquet is next up and I hope to see you all there. We are at the Whites in Westport and it should be a
great time and if you need tickets please contact me.
Well there is nothing to report at this time on the shows for next year but if you have the time come support the
clubs that sponsor them and see what’s new with the club and the booth. We have changed the booth a little so
come check it out.

BEACH REPORTS:
Cape Cod National Seashore, Provincetown, MA

The beach is closed all the way south from the bathing beach, Race point is open to Hatches Harbor including
the pole line route, the recent storms have forced the beach into the winter mode quickly this year, hopefully that’
s not a harbinger of things to come.
The Conservation project went very well with a group of 56 volunteers we cleaned the beach from Hatches
Harbor all the way down to High Head. Under wonderfully sunny skies we picked up truck loads of trash and
once again proved that the MBBA really cares about our beaches. Thanks to everyone that helped out and
special thanks to Jim Conboy who put on a fantastic meal for lunch.

Nauset Beach Orleans/ Chatham, MA
Nauset Beach ORV trails are currently open to vehicles with current ORV stickers. The front beach is now
beginning to build. There are several spots on the front that remain impassable. The back trail is open from the
gatehouse to the tip. With the recent rain and this Friday and Saturday’s tides the highest of the year expect
water in the back trail and some beach erosion.
Vehicle limits are 350 per day and 60 S/C vehicles. S/C vehicles are requested to park south of Trail 5. There is
parking at trails 5, 6, and 7 for self contains. Self contains should travel the back trail. Air pressure should be
down to 12 pounds as the sand is very soft. The beach is in winter mode so no check on or off is required. Dogs
are allowed off lease, but under control.
Beach goers should pay close attention while in the water due to recent shark sightings. There have been 8
sharks tagged with satellite and acoustic tags this summer. With the colder water coming in with the season the
sharks are due to held south for the winter.
The North Beach Advisory Committee continues to work with town officials including Chatham selectmen Sean
Summers and Tim Roper to draft a formal letter to other beach towns on the Cape to form a collaborative effort
regarding beach access. The goal is to increase the mindset that beaches can remain open with plover activity
and still allow ORV access with monitoring procedures.
I will be attending The Cape Cod Chapter’s first Surfrider Foundation meeting this Wednesday in Chatham to
gather information regarding environmental programs and initiatives. The goal of this world-wide organization is
protecting and preserving local beaches for all to enjoy.

Chapin Beach, Dennis, MA
As many that have been driving to fish here , they were surprised as to why Chapin has been closed to drive on
when the fishing is picking. They at the town made a decision as the dunes were building and they felt to give it
a chance to survive through the winter that it was best to stop access so as no one would drive on the dunes and
take what has build. It will be a long but slow winter and I will keep on them about the status and reopening in the
spring as I had been told from Karen Johnson the new director of Natural resources. Crows has been status quo
with the locking of the gate out to the beach at night but no further gates have been installed as of yet from the
meetings that went on through out the summer. Both are accessible for walking on to fish and it has been worth
dragging a nice keeper back from Bass Hole.

Plum Island, Newburyport, MA
Drove the beach around noon today. It looks like the NE wind-driven surf has washed up to the symbolic fencing
the last couple days. It's hard to call this "cresting" as the berm is almost indefinable since the pounding the
island took last week. South of mile marker 1.0 the backshore looks like a long decline from the dunes to the
water.
The swell is coming in -- maybe 4-5'. The water is moderately milky with suspended sediment for almost 200
yds out. Weeds aren't too bad.
The NW wind seems to have more North than West in it and as a result it is barreling down the beach from left to
right, only slightly behind your left shoulder. Wind speed is expected to diminish to 15-20 kt after midnight
tonight (it was about 27 knots at noon today) and it will start coming west, dropping the surf to 2' - 4'.
Despite the wind, the temperature on the beach was comfortable.
Sunday's conditions look quite tolerable. Try to get out if you can -- only two weekends left after this one.
FISHING
Some shorts were taken on bait near high tide this morning. I threw a diamond jig in the heavy wash for about
1/2 hour and came up empty, but the fish are there.
MISCELLANEOUS
When you come down, look at the beach north of "the center" (at the end of the road past Surfland). You've
probably seen the beach replenishment effort on TV, but the finished result is something to appreciate in
person. Also look at the outer sandbar that was accessible by a sand bridge in 2009 (at about 57th street, but
visible from "the center"); the sand bridge is growing back. Will the outer bar be accessible by foot again next
spring..?

Scusset Beach Report
Bob and I would like to thank everybody for the great turn out for the Scusset Fall Project we had a great time
and a fantastic pot luck and fire Saturday night. John and his staff really appreciated the help. I hope all had a
good summer with the incredible weather we had to enjoy there beach's.
As we say good bye to the summer camping season Scusset goes on winter mode open Thursday thru Sunday
with 30 amp electric but no water or dump station.
We hope everybody has a great time at the banquet we won't be able to attend this year due to a prior
commitment.

Conservation and Dune Management
Our projects are over for the year we had a great turnout at Race Point and really impressed the Rangers. For
our new fall project at Scusset we picked up the board walk and stored it for the winter and also did a beach
clean up, 33 volunteers came out to help and made easy work of it. Thanks to the folks from Plymouth Beach for
all that came out to help and to Chip, Charlene and uncle Bob for cooking the hot dogs.
Thank you to the committee members Erik Bumpus and Dan Carnali for their help and support on the projects.
